Never Say Never!

Well, for some reason(unknown to me), I decided to run another half marathon exactly 6 months and one day from my first half in January.  If any of you remember from a previous post, I said that I would NEVER run another half.  Well, I guess I ate my words and ran the Lacamas Lake half today.

I trained for the past 3 months and felt good about the race. What I didn't know was how hilly the course was, and in addition to the gradual smaller hills, there were two gigantic hills. The first hill was at 6.5 miles and the second was at 12.25 miles.  Who on earth makes you run a huge hill in the last mile??   Cruel!!  I knew about the last hill, but had no idea about the first one. When I went around that corner and saw the first hill, my eyes about popped out of my head.

My goal was to run the entire thing, but as I was running, my goal changed into running until the gigantic hill at 12.25 miles. I only saw one person run up the hill, and I figured that I'd rather walk up the hill and run through the finish line, than vice versa, so that is what I did. The hill was more brutal than I can even explain, but by the grace of God(Seriously!!), I made it up!

I felt really good after the race this time, completely different than January. I wasn't rolled up in the fetal position for 5 hours like last time, thank goodness! All in all, I'm happy with completing the half. And this time I'm already talking about trying the Sauvie's Island half in July.(Maybe!!!) It's completely flat!!

Just about to cross the finish line!! I even had energy to sprint across the finish line, which I definitely did not have last time.  This picture was taken before the sprinting and looks like I'm walking! :)

Congratulations Shayna! I'm so impressed. I signed-up to walk a half marathon in October, and I don't know how I'm going to be ready!
