Mia had her 4 month appointment with the doctor today. She had to get shots again, which weren't fun. I always like finding out her measurements to see how big she's gotten. Mia weighs 12 lbs, 8 oz, which is the 25%. She is 24 1/4 inches tall, which is the 50%. Her head is 39.5 cm, which is the 10%. She continues to remain at the same percentiles, which means she's eating and growing well!
I don't think I ever mentioned that we discovered that Mia is allergic to cow's milk. At about 3 weeks old, Mia began having blood in her stools. The doctor first thought it was just a tear, but when it didn't clear up after 2 or 3 more weeks, she thought it might be something more serious. Then started the adventure of trying to figure out if she is allergic to milk. So, since I'm breastfeeding, I had to go off of ALL dairy products for almost 3 weeks and the blood stopped. The doctor had me go back on dairy for a week to make sure it wasn't a coincidence, and in fact the blood came back. So, we went to see a Gastro-Intestinal specialist and they determined that Mia is allergic to milk.
I've learned that most babies outgrow this allergy before their first birthday and most of the remaining by the age of 3. I'm hoping and praying that Mia does outgrow this allergy.:)
In the mean time, I've now been off of all dairy for 10 weeks and it has been very difficult. I am the biggest dairy person. :) I ate cheese, milk, and yogurt every single day, and lots of it, too!! I want to breastfeed Mia as long as I can, but it is tough. I'm planning on breastfeeding until Mia is 5 or 6 months old and then switching her to formula. Unfortunately, because of the milk allergy, we have to use a VERY expensive formula. I'm just taking it a few weeks at a time, which seems very manageable. :)
Peek-A-Boo!
Mia and I were hanging out on the couch when deer walked into our backyard. They must have gotten lost, because we don't live anywhere near the forest. I brought Mia to the door so she could check out the deer. I decided against taking her outside to try and get pictures with them. :)
Mia and Daddy working in the yard!
Mia and Papa have matching green striped T-shirts on!
Cousin Jason and Jessica's wedding! They looked amazing, and it was a wonderful wedding!!
Mia's always excited when she gets to wear one of her many dresses! Or maybe that's just me! :)
Mia slept in Maco's arms during the entire reception! This was Mia's second wedding in two nights, and she did the exact same thing the previous night.
We feel very blessed to be Mia's parents! She is such a joy, and we can't imagine life without her. We've only known her outside of the womb for a few short months, but it seems like she's always been with us. Mia is a very mellow baby(like her daddy-definitely not her mommy:)). She really only cries if she's overly tired or hungry, which we try not to let happen too often. :)It's been fun listening to her discover her voice and experience the world around her. We're excited to see what the next 4 months bring for Mia, but we don't want it to go too fast. We thank you for all the love that you have shown Mia these past 4 months!
Auntie Kelly got engaged last week, and Mia gets to be a flower girl in her wedding next summer. Hopefully she'll be walking by then. She even gets to walk down the aisle with Mommy and Daddy. I get the honor of sharing in the matron of honor duties with my sis, Katie. And Maco gets the privilege of being a "bridesman"(I guess that's what they call it). Congratulations, Auntie Kelly and Uncle Ryan!! We can't wait for the big day!
