I’m so happy that state is in Tacoma every year, because I still have college friends living there that we can bunk with for the week! We stayed with the Inversos this week and had a lot of fun!
All the girls getting ready for the sun!
We met the team at UPS for a couple of their shoot arounds before the games!
Mia’s getting in on the coaching!
On our way to our first game against North Central. Mia got to carry in something very special for Daddy. A Kleenex box!!! He was not feeling very well, so we made sure to bring him a much needed box to help him through the game.
Mia was so excited to have her friend, Cha Cha, at the game to play with.
First game at state….Won!!!!
Getting a minute long congratulatory hug from Cha Cha!
Siri did Mia’s hair so nicely one morning!
We made a trip to the library and had our own story time with one of “Auntie” Tharen’s friends.
Mia got her first experience at the American kids favorite pastime…….McDonalds Playland!!!
Our second game at state against Rainier Beach! This is normally how I am during the 4th quarter. I can’t sit, and I’m up pacing or not watching at all. I should have been fine during this game because we won by 15 or something. Can you imagine how nervous I am when it’s a close game? It’s so not fun! :)
We did it! We beat Rainier Beach, the #4 team in the state. On to the semi-finals against Lakes.
Just won the semi-final game against Lakes in typical Union fashion, by one point!
The media can’t get enough interviewing of the team. No one thought we’d be in the finals at state! Well, no one that is outside of the Union family!
So happy after that we are in the finals!!!!!
Auntie Kelly was able to break away from work and come up for the last 2 games. And “Uncle Derek” drove up for every game! What a fan!!
Hanging out with friends the morning of the state championship game!
Got Mia her first hot chocolate at Starbucks, and she was not a fan!
State Championship: #1Enumclaw vs unranked Union!! This is a picture of the Enumclaw side. Let’s just say the Enumclaw fans probably outnumbered us 3 to 1.
Mia and one of her favorite friends, Kenzie, getting ready to root on the team!
I am still sitting in the stands at this point, but the game has just begun!
Some of our sweet and supportive friends that came to cheer on the Titans!!
Mia will typically eat anyone’s popcorn that she can find!! I don’t mind because it keeps her busy! Although, I think I owe the Spikes about 15 tubs of popcorn from throughout the year! Thanks for sharing, Addie & Kenzie!
Halftime fun!!( I actually never went back up to the stands from halftime on. Way to stressful!!!)

And the dogpile after the win! (Hopefully I will be able to share more professional pictures from our team’s photographer. but for now these are the the best that I have. And I have Tharen to thank for taking these pictures. I surely wasn’t doing it. After we won, I couldn’t even think, process, or do anything else. So, I’m thankful she was there to capture some memories for me! You know how I am about my photos!!)
After the game, Maco didn’t get to celebrate much with the team because he had to do so many interviews! Guess that just the price you pay for the victory.
We were waiting for so long to congratulate Maco, and they wouldn’t let us onto the court. So, finally before Carl Click interviewed him, Maco told him that he had to come over and give his wife and daughter a hug. It was wonderful!!!

Cutting down the State Championship net!!!!!
Some of our Union fans!!!
One of my right hand gals at all the games, the assistant coach’s wife, Nikki! So happy to have someone so sweet and fun to hang with at all the games! Makes the games a lot more fun!
Our first picture with the state champion coach! He only made us pay him $5 for it!!
Man, this trophy was heavy!! Glad I didn’t drop it!
The state champion coaching staff!!!
Mia was such a trooper at the celebration party at Red Robin after the game! She was up until almost midnight with the time change. It didn’t even seem to phase her at all!
As I am adding comments to this post, I still can’t even believe this happened! It still seems so surreal. It definitely feels like it happened a lot longer than 11 days ago! I am so happy that it happened for the boys and the coaching staff. They worked so hard, and they truly deserved it! I am so thankful that God allowed them to play to their potential and do the best they possibly could! My prayer for every game was that they would just play the best that they could and Maco(and the coaches) would coach to the best of their ability. The totally did that, and even managed to win a little thing called the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!
Seriously, did this really happen? I think I’ve been dreaming for the last two weeks!!! So proud of the Union Titans! Until next year when all of the stress and craziness begins again!!!
