St. Nicholas Day!

As a child my sisters and I always got Christmas pajamas on Christmas Eve. I wanted to continue this tradition, but wanted to give the pj's to Mia before Christmas, so she could wear them more.(Not that she can't wear them after Christmas, but it's just not the same!) My wonderful friend, Tharen, gave me the great idea to give the pajamas on St. Nicholas Day, December 6th, each year. I thought this sounded perfect and a new tradition in the Hamilton household has begun!

I've always celebrated St. Nicholas Day with my 4th graders during our Holidays around the World unit in December. I loved(and so did the kids) learning about many holidays in different countries, making special crafts(the one time a year I'm crafty in my classroom), and eating traditional food.( I actually have missed experiencing all of the holiday traditions with my students this month. Just a little!)DSC_0029

So in Europe, where they celebrate St. Nicholas Day, the kids leave out their shoes for St. Nicholas to fill with goodies. As you can see I actually fit Mia's pajamas in her shoes.

She wasn't quite sure what to do with the shoe......

After much coaxing, she finally reached for the shoe.......

and what did she do with the shoe and pajamas????

Of course it went straight into her mouth like everything else. I thought by 9 months she'd be done putting every single thing in her mouth! Is this normal?

Mia loves to stand here, but hasn't really figured out how to let go and sit down. She'll stand here for 10 minutes without letting go!

Yaya & Papa gave Mia her first Christmas gift....a cute holiday outfit and a fun book!

I'd have to say the "everything goes in my mouth" is quite normal... Asher is 10 1/2 months and still puts EVERYTHING in his mouth.... probably goes on as long as teething?!? And that is so funny how you said she stands in that one spot, because Asher just learned within the last week how to safely lower himself from standing. Mia is such a doll ~ love the scrunchy face!!
