38 Week Doctor Update!!!

I went to see Dr. Morgan this past Thursday, and we found out that I tested positive for the Group Strep B virus, which is quite common these days. With the Strep B there aren't any visible symptoms, and the only reason a woman would find out she's a carrier for this is when she's pregnant and about to deliver. The Strep B can be passed on to the baby in the birth canal, although it is very rare. So, to hinder this from happening, I have to receive 4 hours of antibiotics before I deliver. Since this is my second delivery, I'm a little nervous about delivering too quickly and not allowing enough time for the antibiotics. Dr. Morgan reassured us that even if that happened, we would just have to stay in the hospital for two extra days to monitor the baby. And that it would still be very rare for the baby to contract the virus.

We also found out that I am dilated to a 2, 50% effaced, and my cervix is very soft. She also stripped my membranes(which was possibly the worst pain I've every felt-even more than delivering Josiah-we won't get into what this is for you squeamish people.) Basically it means that things are starting to happen, although some people can remain at a 2 for two weeks with nothing more happening. However, yesterday, more "labor things"(we won't get into what this was either because it might be too much for some. :)) began happening, including frequent contractions.I had fun listening to Maco speak at his basketball banquet, while enduring contractions last night.

So......with all that said, from what I hear from friends, it seems that delivery may be very soon, but there's really no guarantee. If nothing happens before Monday, March 3, we plan to be induced that day. I can't imagine that Mia will wait that long, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Thanks for all of your positive thoughts and prayers. We look forward to having you all meet Mia. Feel free to come and visit at the hospital or whenever you can.
